Activity Goal
The goals of this CME/CE activity are to:
  • Increase clinicians’ awareness of the incidence and pathophysiology of leukemia
  • Apply up-to-date methods for screening and diagnosing patients with leukemia
  • Utilize up-to-date methods for selecting and assessing treatment interventions that optimize outcomes for patients with leukemia



Target Audience
This activity is designed for hematologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, family practice/primary care physicians, and other clinicians involved in the management, treatment, and care of patients with leukemia.

Learning Objectives
•   Distinguish among the major types of leukemia, based on their clinical course, the morphology of malignant cell types, their characteristic genetic and chromosomal abnormalities, and their immunogenetic phenotypes.
•   Assess differences among the leukemias in terms of the hematopoietic stage of the cell of origin and the genetic changes that led to each type of malignancy.
•   Evaluate the specific treatments for each type of leukemia relative to their known genetic defects.
